Who or what is a KrazyDad?
KrazyDad is me, Jim Bumgardner. I'm a programmer / musician with a passion for making software art and software toys. I'm a senior technologist at Topspin, recently joining them from Yahoo! Music, where I built facebook apps and other cool things. I am also occasionally an instructor at Art Center in Pasadena on various creative & technical subjects, most recently Flash.
In 2003, I started building this website to sell software toys, and now I've pretty much moved here (but now I give all the toys away for free). My first website, www.jbum.com, has been around since 1996, and is full of all kinds of wacky Web 1.0 stuff.
How do I contact you?
Use this handy dandy form
Are you the same 'jbum' from Flickr?
Yes. I coauthored the book Flickr Hacks for O'Reilly with Paul Bausch. The book came out February, 2006. I founded the Flickr Hacks group on Flickr, and created the Flickr Colr Pickr, the Flickr Chia Pet, and other cool flickr toys.
Aren't you the guy that made the Whitney Music Box?
Yep. Also the CoverPop mash-up site, the Wheel of Lunch, a few thousand sudoku and kakuro puzzles, and tons of other software toys. My body produces software the way other people produce poop.
Are you the same 'jbum' who created The Palace chat system?
Yes. I am the designer and programmer of the original Palace system, as well as a co-founder of The Palace, Inc., a pioneer in online communities that drew more than one million users at its peak.
The Palace received numerous honors, including "Best of 1996" by Entertainment Weekly; a Webby Award nomination; "Cool Innovation of the Year" nominee; Chicago SUN-Times' Best Website: 1998; Top 100 Websites of 1998 and # 24 on the Forbes Magazine POV List.
There is more palace-related stuff on my old website: www.jbum.com
Did I see one of your puzzles somewhere?
Perhaps. I wrote three puzzle books for Ulysses press in 2006, and have sold sudoku, kakuro and other puzzles to a few publications, including Games magazine. I occasionally construct puzzles for Mung Being, an excellent online magazine, and my puzzles appear in dozens of small regional and college newspapers. If you'd like to include a puzzle in your school paper, send me an XL t-shirt with the school logo and remember to include the copyright notice!
